Equilibrium Bench
Galleria Rossana Orlandi
2017
The bench is the result of a personal search for the essence of things. It’s the attempt to get to the heart of the matter by deconstructing an image, pushing the material to the limit, and then restore it with a minimum intervention. By walking on a thin line, the aim is to create a small shift of perception, making the viewer question the object and the effective potential use of it.
The main structure of the seating element is made out of several layers of lacquered birch plywood, the central part of which reaches the minimum thickness of 3 millimeters. In order to make the piece structural, a hot-rolled steel arch is paired with the wood. A stainless steel cable provides the final stability to the whole by containing forces, avoiding any possible movement of the arch when receiving any pressure from above.
